Cheshunt Karate Club was 10 years old on the 26th January 2009. As part of the celebrations Sensei Pell 5th Dan organized a competition, which was held at the Goffs Oak Dojo on Sunday the 25th. 27 juniors participated in the 3 events, Kihon Ippon Kumite, Kata and the Open Kumite. Sensei Paul 5th Dan was the Chief Referee on the day and was assisted by Sensei Ayres 4th Dan, Sensei Edwards 3rd Dan, Sempai Boughey 2nd Dan and Sempai Skarpellis 1st Dan. 3 of the senior junior grades also assisted with the judging which gave them some experience for future competitions. The spirit shown by the competitors was superb said Sensei Pell, with some as young as 7 competing for the first time and already showing a great level of Martial Art maturity. The adult section gave a demonstration of Ippon Kumite from basic posture and freestyle. The competitors were grouped into 3 sections for the Ippon Kumite and the Kata and the Open Kumite was between the 2 groups of higher grades. Participation medals were given to all the students at the end, in recognition of their efforts. As a thank you from all the students of both sections, Sensei Pell presented the senior Dan grades with a ceremonial Katana (sword) for 10 years of dedicated teaching at the club. Sensei Pell thanked everyone for attending and for all the hard work of the judges for making the event such a success.
